Kura sits on a ridge above Uvita town and Marino Ballena National Park, about a 15-minute drive from the main road in Uvita de Osa. The adults-only hotel has 8 suites, four of them with private pools, about 1,100 feet above the Pacific. Its pool has 180-degree views of the ocean and the Whale’s Tail, and the hotel promotes it for sunsets, with jungle to the east. The wedding page offers whole-resort booking or a stay for two. It does not publish ceremony spaces, guest capacity or catering and vendor rules, so ask before you plan around a specific setup. The last stretch of road is rugged and 4×4 only; guests can park in Uvita for a 15-minute transfer, and there is a helipad five minutes away.

Rancho Pacifico

Rancho Pacifico is an adults-only boutique resort at about 2,000 feet (600 meters) in the hills above Uvita, with treehouses, villas and modern suites and views of the ocean. Its destination wedding page offers whole-property bookings or a single room for elopements and small weddings, with the ceremony in its gardens or at an off-site natural venue on the southern Pacific coast. The resort says its team can arrange a photographer, flowers and witnesses; if you want to bring your own team, ask about its vendor policy before you book. It does not publish a guest capacity, and its policies say drone flight is not permitted, with no wedding exception published. The restaurant overlooks the Whale’s Tail, and the last mile and a half of road is steep gravel that requires 4×4.

Vista Celestial

Vista Celestial is a boutique hotel with ocean-view villas on a 50-acre rainforest reserve, about 2 kilometers northeast of the Uvita waterfall and next door to Rancho Pacifico, which its website lists as a sister hotel. The villas are about 1,000 square feet, sleep up to four guests each and have views of the Whale’s Tail, and the sun deck is promoted for Pacific sunsets. The hotel does not publish a wedding offering, so if you are considering it, ask whether it hosts ceremonies or receptions. It may also work well as lodging for wedding guests. The road needs a 4×4.

Getting to Uvita

Uvita is roughly 3.5 to 4 hours by road from San José airport (SJO). All three hotels point guests who want to save time to Quepos airport (XQP): about a 20-minute flight on Sansa or Green Airways, then roughly an hour by road. Because of the steep 4×4 roads, ask each hotel about transfers before you invite guests.

Light, seasons and the Whale’s Tail

The South Pacific’s dry season runs December to April and the green season May to November, so afternoon rain is common outside the dry months and worth a rain plan. Sunset in Uvita is about 5:10 PM in November and December, around 5:30 PM in January, about 5:45 PM from February to April, and close to 6:00 PM in June and July (calculated for Uvita, so confirm for your date). In the dry season we suggest planning the ceremony so portraits fall in the last hour of light. Kura promotes its pool for sunsets, and at Rancho Pacifico only the Treehouse Tucan is described as west-facing, so ask which space faces the horizon you want.

Marino Ballena National Park protects the Whale’s Tail, a rocky and sandy formation reachable only at low tide. According to the park authority, its tail shape is visible only from high ground or from the air, so the hillside views above Uvita are among the best ways to see it. Humpback whales visit in two seasons, roughly July to October and December to April, with the exact months varying by source.
